Alopi Devi Temple - Allahabad

Alopi Devi Temple is located in Alopibagh, in Allahabad city, state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is very close to the confluence (Sangam) of River Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. The confluence of these three holy rivers considered as a sacred place and Kumbh Mela is also nearby this place.

The very strange fact about this temple is that there is no statue of any deity inside the temple. Therefore that is very odd in a way but the “Doli” or wooden carriage is worshipped.

There is a short legend behind this temple. When Lord Shiva lost his wife Sati, He was in grieving condition. He was traveling with his wife’s death body. Then, to come out from this grief, God Vishnu threw his Chakra at her (Sati’s) corpse and at once the various parts of her body fell down on the various places which become pilgrimage due to touch of the Sati’s body’s different parts. The last past of Sati’s body fell at this place of Alopi where the disappearance of Sati was concluded and this place became a holy place of Goddess Sati the name was given as “Alopi Temple”.

Numerous people worship the deity at Alopi temple with faith and also share the marriage, festival, death and birth with the deity of Alopi temple as their guarding deity.
