Patit Pavan Mandir - Ratnagiri

Patit Pawan Mandir which was established by Shriman Bhagojisheth Keer in the year of 1931, is a Hindu Temple situated in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, India. In 1931, Patit Pawan Temple was constructed by Shriman Bhagojisheth Keer.

The name of the temples talks for itself. In Marathi, Patit means humblest, downtrodden, modest human in the society. The word Pawan signifies awakened, purified, fulfillment and enlightened. This way the both words indicate the transformation the downtrodden to the pure and clean form which restitute his human rights.

The place where the dalit or untouchable persons can perform the worship and puja of their Gods as other persons do. At that time, in the temple, the entry of untouchable-Harijan was unthinkable. It was the thought that higher caste human would take bath again even when untouchable’s shadow fell on them. The advantage of such a social fabric of India was taken and misused by the Britishers who use the Policy “Divide and Rule”. The Britishers had totally destroyed the discretion and caste system.

One day a person who observed this wrong policy and decided to fight against this, was Vinayak Damodar Sawarkar. He was the one of the great person who scarified his great part of the life to stop this partiality. He constituted the temple of Patit Pawan and created a tempest in the society.
This Patit Pawan Mandir is really very nice spot where one can find the peace of mind.
