Banke Bihari Temple - Vrindavan

Banke Bihari Mandir, a famous temple of Lord Krishna is located in Vrindavan city, Mathura District, Uttar Pradesh, India. This place is considered as the most sacred place of Hindus.

It is said that especially in Shraavana (July-August) month, the Lord Krishna was initially worshipped at Nidhivana. The temple of “Banke Bihari” has its own meaning : “Banke – bent in three places” and “Bihari – supreme enjoyer”. This deity was originally worshipped by Haridas Swami as a name of Kunji-Bihari.

Banke Bihari Mandir was constructed by Swami Haridas who was belonged from Nimbarka Sampradaya- contemporary of the six Gosvamis.

It is said that the temple was moved when the temple was going to be build in 1864 ( or 1874). It is also believed that the deity of Banke Bihari temple discovered at Nidhivana, in the 16th century. In the beginning the only the idol of Lord Krishna was worshipped but later a small idol of Radharani was established there with the statue of Banke Bihari. The Banke Bihari temple was very near to temple of NIdhivana in India.
