Shree Swaminarayan Temple - Bhuj

Shree Swaminarayan Mandir, Bhuj is a Hindu temple in Bhuj. This temple was built by Swaminarayan, organizer of the Swaminarayan Sampraday.

Shree Swaminarayan Mandir comes under the “Narnarayan Dev Gadi”. Senior devotees Sundarjibhai, Gangarambhai and other persons from the Bhuj region of Kutch went to Gadhada. At that time Swaminarayan was attending a “Fuldol festival” there. In that festival, the devotees of Bhuj met Swaminarayan and appealed him to build a temple in Bhuj.

Swaminarayan asked Vaishnavananand Swami to continue and do the further procedure with a team of the saints to Bhuj and buid a temple. In 1822, Vaishnavanand Swami and the consequent saints went to Bhuj, camped at the place neighboring land of temple. Then after they drew the plans of the temple, complex and executed the plans with minute details. In last, they built a temple abode of NarNarayan Dev within a short span of one year.
Late Guru Ramanand Swami constantly visited Bhuj and other places in Kutch and spread Satsang in the Kutch region.

Swaminarayan had adorned this temple in the western belt of India and had himself installed the idols of Narnarayan dev and Harikrishna Maharaj-his sown form in central holy place sanctorum of the temple.

Near the image of God, the idol of RadhaKrishna Dev and Harikrishna Maharaj are seated under the eastern dome and the idol of Ghanshyam Maharaj is seated in western dome. The houses of images of Ganapati and Hanuman is located in the main square of the inner temple is named as “Roop Chowki”.

“Akshar Bhavan” treasures the personal items of Swaminarayan in the temple.
Due to Earthquake on 26 January, 2001, most of the part of not only the city but also the original temple of Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Bhuj constructed by Swaminarayan in 1824, was shattered.

To renew the temple, the new temple is being built with only gold and marble. The idol of Swaminarayan’s throne, the domes of temple and gates will be made of gold. And on the other side, the ceilings and pillars will be made from marble.

The creative main idol of Nar Narayan and Swaminarayan in the appearance of Hari Krishna will be moved from the old temple to the new one along with Radha Krishna, Swaminarayan (in form of Ghanshyam) and Sukh Shaiya and others.

The newly temple of Shri Swaminarayan is being constructed at a cost of 1 billion Indian rupees (100 crore) on 5 acres of land.
The ceiling and pillars of this temple are adorned with intricate carvings which will make this temple the most expensive temple in the Indian state of Gujarat recently. Thousands of people will come here to visit this marvelous temple of Bhuj.
