Mahalaxmi Temple - Kolhapur

Shri Mahalaxmi Temple is one of the Shakti Peethas listed in many puranas of Hinduism. Mahalalakshami Temple is located in Kolhapur in Maharashtra, India.

As Mahalaxmi Temple is one especial place of the Shakti Peethas from six different places, it is believed that the desires of the devout can be fulfilled or one can get salvation. As Goddess Mahalaxmi is consort of Lord Vishnu, the temple has taken this name from “Mahalaxmi” who is goddess of Shakti (power).

The Legends behind this temple shows us the Shakti of Goddess Mahalaxmi. It is believed that Lord Vishnu resides in the states of Karavira Mahatmya in the form of goddess Mahalaxmi at Kolhapur. A demon named Kolhasura who tormented the all Gods and other beings, was killed by Mahalaxmi. Then the spot of his death became a shrine and that Goddess took domicile at here Karavira which has been established today in a form of temple.

The main entrance of the temple is the western entrance where several deepamaalas welcomes on either side. There are images of three goddesses, Mahalaxmi in the central side and goddess Mahasaraswathi and Mahakali on the either side. The idol of Mahalaxmi is 3 feet in height and carved in black stone.

In the premises of this temple the other shrines of the Surry, Navagrahas, Vitthal-Rakhmai, Mahishasuramardini, Shiva, Tulja Bhavani, Vishnuand and others.

Mahalaxmi Temple is really very famous temple connected to Pune, Maharastra.
