Mahalaxmi Temple - Mumbai

Mahalaxmi Temple is one of the most prominent and scared temple in Mumbai, located at the coast on the north side of Malabar Hills. This temple is mainly dedicated to goddess Mahalaxmi and shrines the other goddesses are MahaKali and MahaSaraswati.

The Mahalaxmi Temple was built about the year in 1785. The history of the Mahalaxmi Temple is purportedly associated with the building of the “Hornby Vellard”. The engineers were facing the problems and enabled to connect the area of Mahalaxmi by Worli developing Breach Candy. The plan that was so difficult was dropped due to cruel tides. Suddenly on day, the goddess Mahalaxmi emerged in the chief engineer’s dream and asked him to constitute the pilgrimage of her at the original spot. Everything was cleared in his mind and he established the temple of Mahalaxmi and also built the Breach Candy successfully.

Inside the Mahalaxmi Temple, three idol of goddess Mahalaxmi, Mahakali and Mahasaraswati are decorated with the ornaments like gold bangles, nose rings and pearl necklaces. The idol of
Mahalaxmi is revealed tremendous.

During the festival of Navaratri, countless devotees flock and join in the celebrations as the temple has been decorated with extraordinary look. Numerous devotees come here to get the blessing of goddess and pay obeisance.
